How does descendantsDNA process my sample?
We run state-of-the-art whole genome sequencing on your sample. Not only does this mean all known areas of the genome, but it also means all unknown areas too. This makes the future potential of our test limitless, and in most cases will be the last DNA test you need. This is a much wider and complete scan than the array-based services of companies like 23AndMe or Ancestry.

Purification and quality control
From your cells obtained through a saliva sample, we carefully extract and purify DNA. This allows us to begin quality controls and sequencing.
Read through clustering and sequencing by synthesis
The fragments of your genome are first attached to a special chip called a flow cell. During sequencing, fluorescently labeled nucleotides are incorporated into the DNA strand, and each nucleotide is identified by the unique light signal it emits, allowing the sequencing machine to determine the order of bases in your DNA.
